JH and JV Football Takes on Niobrara-Verdigre
The Boyd County Junior High football team jumped out to an early lead and played well in opening their season with a 40-14 win over Niobrara/Verdigre. The Spartan defense played well throughout the game with just a few breakdowns. The offence had trouble sustaining drives, but lived on the big play. Hudson Hoffman had 4 touchdown runs. Brett Koenig had two scoring runs of his own. Deegan Johnson hooked up with Dawson Shipman for a 2 point conversion.
The Spartan JV football team showed a lot of determination with low numbers in a 14-40 loss to Niobrara/Verdigre. Injuries left the Spartan squad with only 9 players traveling to the game. That number dwindled to 8 with a first quarter injury. Those eight players complete the last 3 quarters of the game and had a strong finish. Dillon Koenig scored one touchdown, with Ethan McBride scoring the other for the Spartans. Alex Santiago-Reyes ran for the 2 pointer and also had a late interception.
