The Boyd County Junior High Football team hosted the Niobrara/Verdigre team on Monday and came away with a 38-6 victory. Ben Schmitz led the way for the young Spartans with his arm and his legs. Schmitz opened scoring with two TD runs in the first quarter. He ran for the PAT after the second score.
Schmitz threw to Peyton Wickersham to open scoring in the second quarter and Preston Brewer ran for the PAT. Schmitz ran for another TD in the third quarter and hit Brewer for the PAT score. The final score for the Spartans was a Schmitz run and a Schmitz to Wickersham PAT.
While the Spartan offense showed improvement over the first game, it was the defense that was the key. The Spartans forced a number of turnovers and were consistently making tackles in the Cougar backfield.
The Spartans host the Stuart Broncos Monday, September 19th.
