The Boyd County Spartans traveled to Ainsworth on January 14th to take on the Ainsworth Bulldogs. The Spartans picked up a big win against the Bulldogs. The Spartans played excellent defense for all 32 minutes of the game, forcing 17 Bulldog turnovers. Boyd County got up quickly by 9 points in the first quarter and were able to maintain that lead throughout the game. Boyd County’s balanced offensive attack was challenging for Ainsworth to defend. Boyd County had 4 players scoring double digits including Colby Hansen, Cory Koenig, Joseph Hiatt, and Jory Zeisler. Hansen also led with 10 rebounds, while Hiatt and Zeisler added 7 each. Hansen also passed for 6 assists, while Hiatt and Koenig dished out 4 apiece. Hansen was also able to record 4 steals.

The Spartans played the Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades on January 20th. The Spartans trailed the big, physical Renegades by just 2 points at the half. The Spartans struggled rebounding throughout the night, recording 10 less than the team’s average. Foul trouble also struck the Spartans as the Renegades shot 18 free throws, compared to the Spartans 4. The high scorer for the Spartans was Colby Hansen with 14, followed by Kannin Ellwanger with 12. Joseph Hiatt led the rebounding category, pulling down 6. Hiatt and Jory Zeisler each produced 4 assists as well. Hiatt also picked up 3 steals.
