Spartans Win Final Home Game
The Boyd County Spartans took on the Summerland Bobcats in Spencer on February 21. This was the last home game of the season and senior night. The Boyd County Spartans were suffering through a three-game losing streak, but then put the hurt on Summerland (Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard) with a sharp 57-31 victory. Boyd County was expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the rankings had forecast. A major key to the win was Boyd County out rebounding Summerland 39 to 21. The Spartans managed to cause 21 Bobcat turnovers, converting many into transition points. In the second quarter, Colby Hansen knocked down a pair of free throws which allowed him to reach 1,000 career points. Colby Hansen was at the top of the scoring column with 14 points, while Jory Zeisler added 13. Hansen also led with 11 rebounds, while Zeisler and Zac Rihanek each pulled down 7. Joseph Hiatt was able to claim 6 assists.
