BC Boys Basketball Season Wrap-Up
March 08, 2022
The Boyd County Spartans finished their 2021-2022 basketball season with a record of 5 wins and 16 losses. The Spartans had wins against Osmond, Creighton, Chambers/Wheeler Central, Spalding Academy, and Niobrara-Verdigre. State Basketball is currently going on in Lincoln as the best teams in the state battle for a state championship. The Boyd County Spartans ended their season against one of those teams a couple weeks ago. The Spartans fell 84-67 to the (23-3) Burwell Longhorns in the D1-6 Subdistrict game. The Spartans trailed by 7 points with 3:14 remaining with the ball in that game. The Burwell Longhorns just defeated the (21-5) Elgin Public/Pope John Wolfpack 65-58 to advance to the semi-finals for the second straight year. The Spartans took on the Wolfpack back on December 18th, 2021 where they were tied at the half with the Wolfack and ended up losing by 5 points. We played seven teams that played in District Final games. Three of those teams advanced to the State tournament with another one with the opportunity tonight. Our opponents combined records are 254-224 with a couple games left.
“We had high expectations for our team all season. We knew that we could play with anyone and that every game was going down to the wire. We have to continue to get stronger in the weight room so we can match the physicality of the best teams in the state. We have to continue to work on our defense and improve our rebounding on both ends of the court. We have to continue to hold each other accountable and hold each other to a higher standard in the classroom and on the court. Boyd County Basketball is on the rise and I am excited to be a part of it.” - Coach Trevor Wright
